So, since I've decided (and kinda been persuaded by Marcos) to use Zapdos on my Psychic Ter-Rain team instead of Hydreigon, I'm now looking at what I could do with Hydreigon.
Aegislash seems like a good partner for Hydreigon, since together they have perfect defensive synergy, and I intend to use a Ghostium Z set for Aegislash. However, I don't know what would be a good set for Hydreigon, or what other Pokémon would go well with them.
Anyone got any suggestions? Feel free to let me know :)
Well you got a point if aegislash is going first it won't have it's bulk to rely on. hmmm... maybe tail wind could be swapped for something else.
With 252 HP in shield form aegislash can live an EQ from fully invested adamant lando then KO after weakness policy goes off.
It can also live a shadow ball from fully invested modest Gengar (not like you see them anymore)
Also just lives +2 shadow claw from a fully invested mimiku
Incineroar and charizard are its biggest threats with flare blitz or overheat wrecking its day but it can survive earth power or heat wave from heatran
"...and wide guard to protect aegislash from EQs"
Um... I would imagine that I'd WANT Aegislash to get hit by Earthquake if it's running a Weakness Policy set, since... y'know, it is kinda weak to it, and... Weakness Policy... yeah.
Hydreigon gets Levitate, so I wouldn't need to worry about him getting hit by it. However, I do agree that it'd be great for protecting Hydreigon from Dazzling Gleam, so I'll definitely use Wide Guard for that purpose.
I think Weakness Policy would be a fun thing to use, now that you bring it up. It'd be good for a few mind games, if nothing else!
Weakness policy aegislash is pretty awesome either quiet or modest nature with 252HP, 252SpA or if you prefer to use physical then adamant nature.
Bait the opponent to hit you in shield form to set off weakness policy (dude can tank a lot of hits) then proceed to slay with +2 attack or special attack with either shadow ball/flash cannon or shadow claw/iron head. Other moves go with Kings shield and wide guard to protect aegislash from EQs, hydreigon from Dazzling gleams
Yeah, either Shadow Ball or Shadow Claw. Haven't quite decided whether to run a Swords Dance set with Shadow Claw and Iron Head, or the more common Shadow Ball + Flash Cannon set. Probably the Shadow Ball set due to Intimidate being literally everywhere at the moment.
Is Tailwind really a good thing for Aegislash though? I tend to get the impression that Aegislash's whole "gimmick" is to tank a few hits in Shield Forme, then switch to Blade Forme afterwards and net a really strong KO. If anything, I'd probably want a 'mon with Icy Wind to deal with an opponent's Tailwind.
Perhaps Snarl would help Aegislash to take a hit while in Blade Forme, but I wouldn't be holding my breath; 60/50/50 defenses are really frail tbh.
Well if Aegislash is going offensive with ghostium i assume thats coming off something like shadow ball and not shadow sneak. Maybe since Aegislash has pretty poor speed Hydriegon could be run offensively as well with a support move like tail wind? You could probably get away with running dual stab in draco and dark pulse for maximum damage and flinch chance and protect since Aegislash covers a lot of weaknesses Hydreigon has. If you want to go more supportive then snarl is an option too.
